As a woman in the workplace,

  • Dreaming you have the confidence to stand up for yourself without putting others down, compromising yourself, your livelihood, or your relationships?

  • Believing you will only make things worse if you speak up or get scrutinized and embarrassed if you do so?

  • Re-living the trauma of speaking up in the past and have made things worse?

  • Feeling disappointed and disheartened when you don’t get the promotion you know you truly deserve when you know you’re as good as the person who got the promotion?

  • In a situation or a place wherein you’ve never been permitted to speak up or defend yourself with words?

  • Living in fear and settling for less because you were raised in a home where women were taught to stifle their voice?

  • Wanting to speak up, but can’t find the right words that commands attention and respect?

As a woman, I’ve experienced it myself too,

and I can assure you that there’s a better future that’s waiting for you to grab hold of.

It seems impossible right now but with just one small push everything could change.

Now, more than ever, you have the chance to step up and make that change for yourself.

You have the option to suppress your voice – to stay in the shadows and let others dominate the workplace, live your big dreams in your head, and pretend like you’re unwilling to promote your successes.

You have the choice to be less visible so you could further decelerate your career and personal growth. Let them shine while you’re dimming. You have that very option in your hands.

But is that what you really, truly want?

Achieving success in any career takes time, effort, determination, and mistakes.

two things that I’ve learned in my very long, successful public speaking career, are:

  • Learning from your own mistakes and knowing how to prevent them is key, but it can take a long time and it can be really discouraging.

  • Experimenting with different strategies to find what works best for you can be quite challenging, and in most cases, the chances of you giving up are high.

I’m culminating my career helping women optimize their professional development by sharing my expertise with them.

I will help you minimize your mistakes and optimize your full potential.

THE SPEAKEASY COURSE

THE SPEAKEASY COURSE

What Will I Learn Inside SpeakEasy?

Module

01

Identifying the Clinical Causes, Consequences and Cures of the Fear of Public Speaking

The fear of public speaking is real. It has a clinical diagnosis and definition. Once you understand its causes and consequences, you can learn to minimize it and even prevent it from recurring.

Module

02

The Challenge for Women

Women face a "double bind" when it comes to speaking to groups. This module contrasts the patterns of communication between men and women and shares insight as to the "likeability" factor that presents a particular challenge for women. Women will recognize 9 key behaviors that erode their personal credibility and techniques to stop exhibiting these behaviors.

Module

03

What makes a great speaker?

Great speakers are not born - they are made. This module reviews great speakers from history and shares insight on becoming proficient with speaking in public by learning from the best.

Module

04

What makes a great speech?

Most of us learned to speak as children, by teachers who were proficient with the young. But we cannot address adults the same way. Adults have different needs and values. It is critical to address adults based upon their needs. Adults have a short attention span and limited tolerance for wasting their most precious commodity - time. This module reveals the secret to crafting a presentation that engages and inspires adults while leaving a lasting positive impression.

Module

05

Dealing with Difficult People

The first half of this module focuses on preventing people from becoming difficult. The second half includes real-life examples of participants who became difficult with corresponding techniques to respectfully manage the disruption and minimize its recurrence.

Module

06

Optimizing Logistics and Technology

What is the best day of the week to make a presentation? Time of day? Room set up? What are technological glitches that can grind your presentation to a halt? All these questions are answered in Module 6 as well as many more to help you optimize your performance in presenting to groups.

Module

07

Mastering Video Conferencing Both as Speaker and Audience Member

Video conferencing is here to stay. Both employees and employers love it. It's convenient, inexpensive, and IT greatly increases access. But everything that makes public speaking challenging is made more challenging in a remote presentation environment. It is no doubt efficient - but is it effective? Only if the leader knows how to get and hold the attention of the remote participants. This module will equip everyone - whether leader or participant with skills and knowledge to optimum videoconferencing impact.

Module

08

Wrapping It All Up!

If you don't use it, you lose it. No truer words were ever spoken when it comes to learning new skills. This module addresses the key take-aways from SpeakEasy, how to reinforce the learning and maintain the momentum. Recommended next steps are shared and encouraged to continue the quest to become a successful public speaker.

WHY I STARTED THIS PROGRAM

When I went off to college, the professional career options for women were limited to nursing or teaching. I began my career teaching and quickly noticed that the women were in the classrooms and the men were in the Administrative suite making policy and decisions that the teachers had to implement.

After several years, I migrated to teaching in healthcare.

Similarly, I noticed that women were at the bedside keeping patients alive while the men were in the Boardroom. In both education and healthcare, the disparity in wages, power, and influence between men and women was enormous.

I was able to climb the corporate ladder and ended my career as a healthcare executive.

Part of this career advancement was because I attained my M.S. Ed. From Indiana University and a post-graduate certificate from Loyola University of Chicago. And it didn’t hurt that I became a frequently-requested speaker for state and national organizations and author of articles to several national journals.

That said, I am convinced that the primary reason I was successful was because I had the confidence and belief in myself to speak up - to stand up for myself - to demonstrate my ability to “hold my own” with men.

“Haven’t things changed now? Aren’t there more opportunities for women?”

Yes, thankfully there are as evidenced by the number of women entering once-sacred male-dominated professions.

But if you look at the current workplace, the gap in wages, power and influence has narrowed but inequity still remains - and according to U.S. Census data, it hasn’t improved since 2002!

To equip women to - once and for all - close this gap.

About SpeakEasy

Both my presentation and my skills improved immediately!

Diane is a fantastic coach! In just one session, she gave me the guidance I needed to complete my first presentation and increase its impact.

She even followed up the next morning with a suggested outline of the slides. Diane's critique of my speaking style was direct, while still gentle and encouraging.

Highly recommended! I'm looking forward to presenting again; just need to start looking for audiences!

We were skilled in everything but speaking...

Diane guided me from being a novice presenter to a confident speaker. Her pearls are forever in my head; outstretch your arms to the group, let the audience teach the class by using open ended questions to stimulate conversations, use slides/PowerPoint only as reminders and never read to the audience.

Ours was a new department and we all had to become effective speakers, even though none of us were formally trained in communication. We all came to Diane from diverse backgrounds with our own expertise in everything but speaking! She set high standards, gave us the skills to achieve them, and then challenged us to do so. And we did.

Not only did this mentoring help me become a polished speaker but I “gained my voice” as a woman in institutions often male dominated and to this day is invaluable. She is one of my heroes that helped shape who I have become.

Speaking in front of my students was not an issue...

I've taught high school very effectively for a number of years so I didn't think speaking in front of others would be an issue, until it was. I retired early and changed professions. In my new role I had to share information with a new group - my peers - and I realized I needed help.

I recorded my presentation and sent it to Diane for her review. I was not happy with it. We scheduled a coaching session and I did the presentation for her uninterrupted. She was really encouraging but gave me a few suggestions that really helped.

I delivered the presentation the next day and it went really well. I even picked up a new customer! Diane gave me exactly what I needed exactly when I needed it. She's a great coach.

Once terrified of speaking in public, I conquered my fear. I'm still astonished!

I began my career as a hospital based medical technologist in a hospital laboratory. As such, I was very policy and procedure driven. The rigor and stringency of this profession suited me well in my early years. Eventually, I felt the need to expand and wanted to work with colleagues throughout the hospital. I did not know how to move forward being a bit shy, introverted, and terrified of public speaking.

When I noticed a position posted in corporate training, I decided to go for it! I met with the director, Diane Banks, and WOW! I felt so welcomed. She saw in me qualities I didn’t see in myself. I was hesitant to accept the position because it was so different from anything I had ever done before. With Diane’s encouragement and can-do attitude, I accepted.

Diane is a wonderful coach. She always let me know that she believed in me and helped me reach deep to move out of my comfort zone. While right there if you needed her, she trusted and believed in you to move forward and accomplish your goals. I achieved things in my career that I never would have fathomed.

Diane created a carefully curated team of diverse individuals all coming together to provide the best education to exceed our healthcare system’s needs, and have a lot of fun doing so.

Through her mentorship and guidance, I was eventually able to take over the Quality Department, become a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Examiner, coordinate Joint Commission and CMS requirements, and become the organization’s first Patient Safety Officer. These require significant teaching and public speaking skills, with which I am now very comfortable.

Diane Banks is an extraordinary educator and mentor. She is dynamic, enthusiastic, friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging. To this day, I credit Diane’s mentorship and belief in me for launching my success and ability to accomplish what I set my mind to do. I could have no greater admiration, respect, and thanks!

No, the membership in SpeakEasy is exclusive to the owner. Exclusivity is part of the agreement that is a condition of purchase.

Are positive results guaranteed?

We guarantee that we will deliver all the elements of the Tier that has been purchased. There are many elements that contribute to success, some that are not within our sphere of influence and impossible to guarantee.

If I refer a friend to SpeakEasy and she buys it, will I receive an incentive payment?

There is no cash payment, but you will receive a 1 hour individual coaching session with Diane Banks [valued at $150].

Will there ever be a Speakeasy course for men?

Absolutely, if there is enough interest.
